Home Sweet Apartment

Untitled

If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed a new post on Sunday. This weekend I moved out of the apartment I have shared with a roommate for the past six months, into my own studio apartment! I just felt like it was time for me to have my own place. I came across my new apartment rather quickly (it was actually a complete whirlwind!). My parents and little brother came to the city yesterday to help me lug all of my stuff from my old place to my new one. Thank goodness for little brothers, who are strong enough to carry ridiculous piles of stuff.

Sidenote: I’ve never considered myself to be a hoarder before, but I may need to start cleaning out my closet/desk/everything! I’ve been hearing a lot of great reviews of  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and will definitely have to check it out for myself! Everyone can use a good spring cleaning every now and again…even if it is August!

Although I still live on the Upper East Side, I know that it will be different having my own space to call home. A few weeks ago I realized that I have never truly lived on my own before. I either lived at home with my family, with roommates in college, or in a single room on a hall of sorority girls (not exactly living alone!). Given my Scorpio tendencies (which I promise to elaborate on more in a future post!) I really value my alone time and own space. This studio apartment is exactly what I need! I cannot believe that this place is all mine!

One thing I have to continually remind myself is that it will take time to make this apartment feel like home. Instead of rushing to make it beautiful enough for a home tour post, I am trying to sit back and enjoy coming up with different design ideas. Right now I am using furniture from my parents’ house and pieces that I used in my dorm room, as well as a couple new pieces from Bed Bath & Beyond/Target/etc. I am also working on saving some extra cash for new bedding and artwork (that I love) to mark this new chapter. I promise to show the final product in a few months, but for now all I am focusing on is trying to remember which box I packed my shorts vs. socks! It is slight mayhem at the moment, but I am really looking forward to organizing and making it my own.

P.S. I currently do not have internet set up yet so posts may be a bit sporadic this week!

Have any tips for decorating a studio apartment? I’m all ears!

    • Thanks Sadie! I am SO excited about my new apartment. Moving was…rough haha I kept saying to my family, “I promise I’m never moving again or at least hiring movers next time!” Cannot wait to check out Sadie’s Been There! 🙂
