Exactly one year ago today All Shook Up was born! Who would have thought that I could keep this whole blogging thing going for one year!? After months of debate during my senior year, I decided to take the plunge and start my own blog a few days after graduating from Bucknell University. I knew that I needed something to fill my time besides constantly applying for jobs. I wanted to fill this tiny corner of the internet with my musings of post graduate life. Since I started this blog, so much in my life has changed. In honor of the fact that I made it one year, I thought I would go back to how I started this blog and tell you a few things you may not know about me!
1. The Estée Lauder Companies
I started working as an assistant at The Estée Lauder Companies in September of last year. I am incredibly grateful for this job and I truly love going into work everyday. Honestly, I could see myself at this company for the long haul (if they’ll have me of course!). With all things on this blog, all thoughts and opinions are my own and do not reflect that of the company.
2. French Bulldog Puppies
I am not entirely sure where this obsession came from, but I LOVE French Bulldog puppies. They are absolutely adorable and one day I will have my own. Right now I definitely do not have the time (or the money!) to have a puppy in the city. But, who knows… all I need is a yard, the money, and of course a great name!
3. Upper East Side living
I moved into an apartment on the Upper East Side in February. It seriously cut down on my crazy long commute from NJ to my office for those first four months I started working. So far I cannot imagine living anywhere else in the city, I love walking home from work through Central Park and watching neighborhood families take their kids to school every day. I feel safe in this area and I love that I can get pretty much anywhere without problem. Now that the seemingly endless winter we have been having is finally over, I am looking forward to adventuring more throughout this city.
And no, my neighborhood is not like Gossip Girl (well at least not where I live!)
I love sunflowers! They are hands down my favorite flower because not only are they beautiful but it is impossible to be sad when holding a bouquet of sunflowers.
I may be a New Yorker now, but I am still a Jersey girl at heart. Although brunch is great, nothing compares to a massive plate of eggs sunny side up, toast, sausage, hash, and a side of french toast from a Jersey/PA diner. Whenever I go home to NJ for the weekend my mom always makes a classic diner choice, pork roll egg and cheese and a cup of coffee, truly delicious. Breakfast foods are always my go to, no matter what time of day! I just wish I had more authentic diners near me now…
6. Early mornings
I love to sleep in, but deep down I am an early bird at heart. Even in college I would wake up early and go to the library when it opened at 9am on Saturday mornings (I know, nerd alert!). There was something so zen about walking around campus before anyone else was even awake. Living in a city that is constantly caught up in an endless rush, I love waking up early and taking my time to get to work. It is the best way to start off my day.
Hands down my favorite season, I love autumn. Everything changing color, jeans and warm scarves paired with a cool breeze is absolute perfection. Although spring is great, I always look forward to the weather getting colder and breaking out my favorite sweaters.
8. Freshly painted nails
There is just something about painted nails, it may sound silly but I love having pretty colors on my nails. It always makes me feel put together and polished. Especially working in the beauty industry, I try to always keep my nails colorful.
9. Stubbornness & determination run deep
I am incredibly stubborn and driven. I go after what I want, because hey, why not me?
10. I do not have all the answers, but I try
Since I started working, many of my friends who are still in college or recent graduates have been reaching out to me about my job, living in the city, and life in general. I try my best to give advice, but honestly I do not have all the answers. Like most things that happened in my life, they came about in unexpected ways and I worked hard to keep up. This blog is filled with random advice and lessons learned along the way, as always, I am simply trying to make sense of this crazy thing we call life.
If you’ve been following along with my blog since day one or just started reading today, I hope these 10 things gives you a better sense of the person behind the blog. I have loved working on All Shook Up, and hope to keep the momentum going for years to come!
