Wordy Wednesday – Just Peachy

Today’s quote is one that I have been very excited to use for Wordy Wednesday. My roommate Eliza had this quote on her bedroom door in our apartment this past school year. I had never heard of it prior to seeing her poster, but it has since become one of my favorites quotes. This may be in part because peaches are one of my favorite fruits, but I also love the message. As someone who in the past worked very hard to appear perfect or seemingly had it “all together”, this quote reminded me that it is absolutely impossible to please everyone. No matter how hard you try or how good you think you are, there will always be someone who thinks differently. Not everyone is going to love you or even like you, period. That is just a part of life. This message is somewhat cynical act first glance, however there is an important factor that is potentially being overlooked. Since there will always be someone who disagrees or judges your actions you should focus on doing what makes you happy.

At the end of the day you cannot please everyone (no matter how hard you try!) so why not focus on what makes you happy? Since there will always be haters, even if you are the ripest and juiciest peach, you have to remember to stay true to who you are. There is only one you, don’t lose who you are for the sake of pleasing others because that is an endless losing battle. It is so easy to get caught up in what is cool or what you think is the right way to act, but that takes away from who you are as an individual.

As someone who has faced my fair share of doubters and toxic friendships, I know that I am the one living this life, so ultimately I have to do what makes me happy. You cannot please everyone; so instead of trying to make everyone else around you happy, focus on you. I would never want to look back on my life and think “Wow that wasn’t even remotely me.” This time in our lives, post grad life especially, is when we question everything and truly figure out who the heck we are. Instead of morphing ourselves into versions of people that we think everyone will like, we should understand that we cannot please everyone. Being who you are, and embracing your differences is the only way to stay true to yourself. There will always be naysayers, do not let them bring you down. You can truly be the nicest, sweetest, person in the world but there will always be someone who does not like you. Do not let that dull your sparkle.
