Today’s quote comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson, an incredible poet and essayist. I was having a somewhat heated debate with my family last night about politics, religion, entitlement, feminism, and the list goes on. I know this is the idealistic recent college grad coming through but I think that the answer to all of these problems is kindness and respect. We are all human beings, so why can’t we respect one another and treat each other kindly?
A few weeks ago my friend was on the phone with the cable company because her off campus housing was having problems with their TV. I have never heard anyone speak so kindly and genuinely friendly with a customer service person. She made small talk, continually thanked the woman for her help, and made sure to wish her a good evening when the problem was fixed. I know that this is only a small act of kindness but I am sure that this woman appreciated my friend’s patience. I think we all need to take a step back and remember to kill each other with kindness, it couldn’t hurt. At the end of the day we won’t look back and think, “Wow I should have been a much meaner person today.” So I hope you go out and kill others with kindness. Smile. You never know what problems others are dealing with, so remember that you cannot do a kindness too soon. Happy Wednesday!
